How are you ? I am fine ,however I have been very busy .Thank you for sending me the letter , it was very interesting to hear about customs in China .I would love to go to the lantern festival ; it seems entertaining . You must be wondering what I have been up to ,be patient I will tell you all about it .
First , there was Acapulco . I spent the two weeks of year 1999 in Mexico ,Acapulco . It was marvelous ! I spent most of my time on the beach and visiting the area around Acapulco . There were 4 beaches , all different .One had very coarse , dark beige sand and no seashells . Another had light beige sand and tiny pale seashells .The fourth one , which is my favorite , has extremely fine beige sand mixed with very fine black sand .On that beach , there were a lot of seashells .On most of these beaches , the waves where medium . My friend was able to swim in the sea , however I do not know to swim so I was unable to do so . But I had fun just walking along the shore and soaking in the water . I also like to gather seashells and hop over waves .
I was saddened by the poverty in Mexico , a lot of people , especially kids , did not have shoes . Some parents , who were too busy running a shop , left the children lying on the floor to take an afternoon nap . I went to a local Mexican market and I wondered how similar it is to the ones in China .There was no refrigeration available , fresh fish was sitting on a table under the sun with fish water dripping onto the sidewalk . The smell was strong and not very pleasant .There was only local fruit and vegetables . The local market had a variety of merchandise ; clothing , animals , baskets , spices , meat , fruit and vegetables . It is peculiar , I am fascinated by the diversity , but at the same time I also appalled by the lack of hygiene and sanitary facilities .
I also saw cliff divers ; they were amazing ! There was no other way to access the top of the cliff where they dove from except to climb up the rocks . The divers climbed the rocks with moment to dive came they appeared to be nervous . They would take a deep breath , concentrate and then jump . That was the most interesting part of my trip .
As you have probably concluded , I very much liked my vacation in Acapulco . I would not mind going back there one day .
After I came back home I had little time to rest before I was on a plane again ; I was sent on business trips . For about to a month I spent most of my time traveling . I went to a town north of Chicago several times . I was went to Fort Lauderdale , in Florida . So that kept me very busy .
You remember when I told you , a couple of months ago , that I had pains in my wrist from typing too much ? Well , I found a solution to my problem : I use voice recognition software . What this means is that I speak into a microphone that is connected to the computer . Then the computer recognizes my voice and types in what ever I say . I am currently dictating this letter to you . Isn’t this wonderful ? I am quite impressed with this software . It is rather accurate , but I still need to do some editing after . The only problem is that this software is at work . Thus , I can only write to you after my work hours . So it is difficult for me to find a time to write to you , but I will try .
