Debbie Yang was born in Taipei, Taiwan. When she was six years old, herfamily immigrated to America. She was immediately fascinated by theblend of cultures in one country. Debbie vividly remembers the newexperiences and the countless number of friends that she made along theway. Her optimistic view of the world allows her to take on challengeswith the intention of improving herself. While undertaking rigorouscourses in school, she volunteered as an attorney at Teen Court formore than five years. Debbie actively participates in National HonorSociety, National Art Honor Society, and many other clubs. She is verygrateful for the support and encouragement of her parents and heryounger brother, Arthur. Most importantly, she will always be indebtedto QuestBridge. The scholarship program has unlocked many gates ofopportunities for her that she could not have imagined. While attendingParsons the New School for Design, she will devote herself to the studyof fashion and fully utilize the educational opportunities that lieahead.

Jiajun (James) Luo was born in Chengdu, China and moved to Californiaat the age of 5. From a young age, James was drawn to nature and itsnumerous phenomena. He would take walks around the block and askquestions about any natural occurrence he found intriguing. In highschool, James fine-tuned his interest towards the field of physics andbegan conducting research at a local university. Because of hisresearch experience, James plans on studying physics in college. Also,he hopes his involvements in community service as a member of the LEOLions Club and his guidance to his peers as the president of thePhysics Club will propel him toward future contributions to the globalcommunity. In his spare time, James loves to play tennis and football,fine-tune his violin skills, and read.

Sarah draws inspiration from the quote, “Happiness in life meansfinding something to do, something to love, and something to hope for.”She loves being a part of her school community and dedicates much ofher time as the editor-in-chief of the school yearbook while she learnsas much as she can from her challenging AP classes. Sarahenthusiastically balances caring for her younger brother, school work,and volunteering at the local hospital. In her spare time, she loves todance and choreograph original routines. Through her studies in highschool, from dissecting a cat to designing computer networks, Sarah hasdeveloped passions for biology and computer science. She plans topursue both at Vassar and is looking forward to all the new experiencesthat she will have. Sarah is very grateful to her family for theirunwavering support and encouragement in all her endeavors. She is alsoextremely thankful to QuestBridge and Vassar for giving her such anamazing opportunity

Brian was born in New York City but grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. He nowattends the College Academy at Broward College, a full-time collegiatehigh school in southern Florida. Outside of school, Brian plays theclarinet and piano. As a member of the Florida Youth Orchestra, he hasperformed at Carnegie Hall. Brian also enjoys sports, includingarchery, table tennis, and tennis. While at Vassar, Brian hopes todouble major in biochemistry and Chinese while exploring various othersubjects such as physics and neuroscience.

At the age of four, Lang Wang and his family arrived in the UnitedStates; however, he was left with his grandparents to pursue anAmerican education and was reunited with his parents and younger sisterfive years later. Lang had a difficult time learning English, butthrough sustained effort and the help of his grandfather, Englishbecame his primary language. As a highly motivated individual, heconstantly seeks challenges to overcome and embraces the opportunitiesavailable to him. His motivations and values are derived from the goodexamples set by his family, friends, and mentors. In school, Lang isknown for his excellent academic achievements and his involvement innumerous activities, with Science Olympiad as the most prominent amongthem. Aside from school, he enjoys going mountain biking with friends,watching movies, and listening to his favorite band Muse. Lang looksforward to expanding his knowledge and

Siu Kay isn't a genius in school, but she always tries her best. She isan optimistic girl that holds the belief that being challenged is thekey to success. She loves spending hours figuring out a hard conceptbecause once she understands it; she feels the rush of accomplishment.She attended Chinese School every Sunday for about 10years of her life, and she feels that it was one of the best decisionsof her life. Her family is her source of energy and she always relieson them for support. Siu Kay knows she has a lot more to learn and sheis excited to see what's out there in the world.

Ester Lee was born and raised in New York. She grew up taking care ofher younger brother while her parents worked to provide for theirchildren. She is very active within her community and her church. Sheis a choir member, a youth group officer and set up a tutoring programfor underprivileged children in the neighborhood. She is also veryinterested in directing and is the local leader for the church dramateam. Ester manages to balance these activities along with her familyresponsibilities which entail taking care for her younger sibling. Sheunderstands the importance of an education and is grateful for theopportunity to attend Swarthmore College

Timothy is a cheerful, easygoing character, unique in his optimismduring even the toughest of times, giving him the confidence toapproach academic and social problems with rationale on his mind and asmile on his face. Timothy is as bright socially as he is sharpacademically, cheering up his fellow peers when they are faced withstruggles or helping them with their schoolwork. His down-to-earthpersonality, tinged with optimism, puts life in a positive light,allowing his friends to share his unique perspective of the world, onefull of hope and trust in the goodness of humanity yet one that isfounded on reason and avoids foolish idealism. Such an attitude allowshim to adapt to any environment and any group of people anywhere in theworld, a skill necessary for one as interested in traveling as he is.While in college, Timothy wishes to study abroad to enrich hisunderstanding of different cultures.
