z-far: I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say you want to release all of your balloons. Doesn't this mean you will have no friends leftover?
As to why we should expect four balloons to return, I honestly do not believe that the numbers matter. I simply received this message in an email from my friend, and I thought it'd be nice to share. [此帖子已被 喜儿 在 2007-7-29 15:32:44 编辑过]
Ahhh..., it is a bit philosophical, on the notion of "to-hold-on", or to "release", with regard to the analogy of balloons, friends. There is no right or wrong, either way...
Releasing all friends/balloons, set them free: This may be a bit Western thinking. In the West, one often has many friends, but none of it are deep bondings. We hardly meet each other (once, or twice a year, due to circumstances). But when we meet, the bonding is assured. Like, when we were reunited on a trip in the wild nature, we would help each other to the utmost, spare no reservation, to help the one in trouble...Many times, this applies to the strangers we met on the trail. They are just like one of the free/drifting balloons (like us). Strangfers and old friends, we share, laugh, and bump each other for a kick in life...strangers become friends. Until we meet the next time, you know, the classic notion of friend is a bit obscure...hey, what is there to hold-on-to, until the next trip, where one will repeat the expereinces, friendships, and more, in a different settings...
Again, there is no right or wrong, either way, just a blog...
Thank you for sharring again.
